The Swedish Cycling Research Centre at VTI hosts a webinar together with Ghent University Länk till annan webbplats. and the Urban Cycling Institute Länk till annan webbplats. on World Bicycle Day 2024. This year, we turn the spotlight to the concept of the 15-minute city. A concept to create a human-friendly, sustainable and inclusive city.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Carlos Moreno from the IAE Paris-Sorbonne, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Professor Moreno will present the 15-minute city concept, a new global, urban pathway towards a sustainable, liveable, and inclusive city. In addition, Professor Moreno will present the research behind it as well as practical examples from the implementation of the concept.

We also welcome Sílvia Casorrán Martos, General Secretary of Cycling Cities Network in Spain, who will give first-hand insights into how the City of Barcelona promotes sustainable and accessible mobility through their Bicycle Strategy.

Further, we will get inspirational insights into the progress of the city of Milan, Italy, by Deputy Mayor of Milan Arianna Censi.

The presentations will be followed by an engaging discussion led by Dr Meredith Glaser - Professor of Cycling at Ghent University and Chief executive officer at the Urban Cycling Institute in Amsterdam - on the mechanisms for change. She will be joined by Dr Luca Bertolini, Professor of Urban Planning, at the University of Amsterdam and Dr Enrica Papa, Senior lecturer of Architecture and Cities at Westminster University in London.
